1. Candidates for the award will be nominated.
2. Current full member of ANNA, having been a member for a minimum of the last 2 years as of the awards/scholarship application deadline.
3. Actively involved in nephrology nursing related health care services.
4. Active participation in ANNA as a full member at local and/or national level.
5. Significant contribution to the growth and effective functioning of ANNA and nephrology nursing.
6. Participated in successful resolution of complex or difficult issues of ANNA.
7. May have served as any officer for the organization except as President within the past 5 years dating from the National Symposium at which the presidency was assumed.

1. Candidates for the award will be nominated.

3. Actively involved in nephrology nursing related health care services.

5. Nominator must provide written documentation of the individual’s ability to motivate others toward a common goal.
6. Demonstrated mentorship of other ANNA members to promote growth and development of the Association.

About Ron Brady

Ron Brady was ANNA's Executive Director at the time of his death from a cerebral aneurysm in February 1998. He also served as Executive Director for the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission as well as Executive Editor of the Nephrology Nursing Journal. Ron was known for his guidance, intellect, creativity, wit, wisdom, and caring for ANNA.

Purpose

5. Minimum 2 years experience in nephrology nursing management, which may include experience as a director, administrator, or coordinator.
6. Nominator must provide written documentation of the individual’s excellence in management style or techniques.

Purpose

To recognize an outstanding nephrology nurse researcher.

Award

$1,000 and a plaque

Eligibility Criteria

1. Candidates for the award will be nominated.
2. Current full member of ANNA, having been a member for a minimum of the last 2 years as of the awards/scholarship application deadline.
3. Actively involved in nephrology nursing related health care services.
4. Active participant in ANNA at the local and/or national level.
5. Preferably holds a master’s or doctoral degree.
6. The nomination packet should include documentation of the following:
   1. The nominee has conducted research that contributes to the advancement of nephrology nursing. The packet should include a list of research the nominee has completed, and any research that is in progress, with the following information:
      • Title of the research study
      • List of other researchers (if applicable)
      • Date of completion of project or projected completion of the study.
   2. The nominee has shared his/her research findings, either through presentation at ANNA meetings or publication in appropriate journals. The nomination letter will provide the following:
      • A list of presentations, including any co-presenters, with the title of the presentation, date, type of meeting (e.g., ANNA National Symposium), and site of meeting.
      • A list of publications in APA format, including other authors (if applicable), publication date, title of article, name of the journal, volume and issue, and page numbers. Note if the journal is a refereed journal.
   3. Additional comments that support the nominee as an outstanding nephrology nurse researcher.

Purpose

To recognize one ANNA chapter annually that has demonstrated exceptional contributions and outstanding achievements while actively supporting the goals and philosophy of ANNA.

Award

$1,500

Eligibility Criteria

1. Chapters will not nominate nor apply for this award.
2. Chapter meets recharter criteria.
3. Chapter demonstrates evidence of cooperation with National ANNA goals through participation in the STAR program.
4. A chapter may not win this award in 2 consecutive years.
5. If a chapter wins the Outstanding Chapter Recognition Award they will not be eligible to win any other Chapter STAR Award or Chapter Rising STAR Award in that same year. The recipient of this award is not eligible to receive the Chapters Collaboration Award in the same year.
6. The timeline for criteria for this award is January 1 through December 31.

Purpose

Recognize ANNA chapter(s) that have demonstrated exceptional contributions and outstanding achievements through collaboration with: (a) one or more strategic alliances with other organizations and/or (b) two or more chapters strategic alliances while supporting the goals and philosophy of ANNA.

Award

$500 for each chapter, or a maximum of $2,000 divided evenly among the chapters, and a certificate

Eligibility Criteria

1. Chapters may apply or be nominated for the award.
2. Chapters may not win this award for the same strategic collaboration in 2 consecutive years.
3. Chapters provide evidence of cooperation with national ANNA goals.
4. The chapter(s) demonstrate a cohesive relationship or initiative in forming an alliance with one or more organizations or entities to provide community service or to directly benefit chapter members or potential members.
5. The chapter(s) increase the visibility of the chapter and other organization to promote and publicize their unique activities.
6. Documentation clearly describes the chapter's collaborative project.
7. The recipients of this award are not eligible to receive the annual Outstanding Chapter Recognition Award in the same year.

Purpose

To award an individual or group who has made a major contribution to the dissemination of research to nurses for use in clinical nephrology nursing practice, education, and/or administration. Dissemination of research findings refers to a systematic effort or project that is directed towards making the essentials of completed research available to nurses in an accessible and usable format. Research-based projects may take various forms such as publications, audio/video tapes, conferences, consultation, or educational programs.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Candidates may apply or be nominated for this award.
2. The primary contact person or nominee must be a current ANNA member, having been a member for a minimum of the last 2 years as of the awards/scholarship application deadline date.
3. Actively involved in nephrology nursing related health care services.
4. Eligible projects must be focused on the development of an evidence-based project for nephrology nursing and relevant to nephrology nursing practice, using the current edition of the ANNA Nephrology Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice as a guide.
5. The primary focus of the submitted project must be sharing findings of research with other nurses.
6. The submission package must demonstrate that the research-based project was:
   1. Presented in a form that is useful to nurses in nephrology settings.
   2. Made available to nurses in a convenient manner and at a reasonable cost.
   3. Packaged in a manner that will attract nurses to use or apply findings in their research, teaching, administration, and/or practice.
   4. Based on science using a synthesis of existing research.

To recognize a nurse who, through clinical excellence, has provided care to patients receiving frequent (daily, every other day, 5 times/week) home hemodialysis that is above and beyond the requirements of his/her position.

   1. Patient recruitment and selection.
   2. Demonstrating initiative to assist in the start and growth of a home hemodialysis program.
   3. Patient education.

About Kelly McManus

Kelly McManus graduated with a BSN from Linfield College in Oregon after she had already completed a BS in zoology and genetics from OSU. Although she had a love of animals, Kelly found that she was much more interested in working with people. She began her career in nephrology at Good Samaritan in Portland, OR, where she worked in many aspects of nephrology and moved into education. As a Clinical Education Specialist, she helped nephrology nurses with training for a variety of therapies and equipment. During her career, Kelly successfully transitioned from nursing  to sales. Kelly never forgot, though, that her customer was always the patient. Kelly never failed to "do the right thing" for her patients. In her last position with NxStage, she was a vocal advocate for making sure that home hemodialysis patients had the ability to live their lives to their potential through their access to the therapy. She worked along with home training nurses to ensure that facilities and patients were educated. Her greatest professional happiness was being able to help patients.

Purpose

Recognize outstanding excellence displayed by an ANNA member who is new to nephrology nursing practice.

Award

Complimentary registration to a future National Symposium within 2 years of receiving the award (value $500) and reimbursement of expenses for travel, hotel, and per diem following the National Symposium, up to $1,500.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Candidates for the award will be nominated.
2. The nominee can either be nominated by someone else or self-nominated.
3. Be a current full member of ANNA, in good standing, for a period of more than 1 year but less than 5 years in nephrology nursing. The time-period is based on the yearly published Awards & Scholarship deadline.
4. Level of education: BSN or higher
5. Application for the New to Practice Nephrology Practice nominee to include four essays questions (less than 250-word limit per question):
   1. What are one or more accomplishments thus far in your nephrology nursing career? Please explain.
   2. What have you done that would exemplify outstanding care for patient(s) with kidney disease? Please provide example(s).
   3. How have you or how would you help advance nephrology nursing through technology, innovation, evidence-based practice, clinical, safety, or education initiatives?
   4. What involvement have you had with your local ANNA chapter and/or ANNA nationally?

Winner's Obligation

1. Duties at the National Symposium, as assigned by the ANNA Board of Directors and/or National Office
2. Write an ANNA article about your experience at the National Symposium
